This time we (Gisele Secco, Elaine Pimentel, Claudia Nalon and myself) had offered to organize a round table about Women in Logic. And so we did, yay! I spoke over Skype, not the best medium, but what can be done, can be done.
We hope to have a text about it written sometime soon. Meanwhile, slides are in slideshare.https://www.slideshare.net/valeria.depaiva/mulheres-na-logica-e-no-brasil
Two points that might be worth pondering on, Valeria:
ReplyDelete(1) you were the only participant of the round table that has children (think in particular about the usual argument about women having a "double workload", which in Brazil counts even towards their right to early retirement age);
(2) no participant of the round table has raised the topic concerning gender-related harassment.
Sorry Joao Marcos, I missed your comment before!
DeleteIndeed children make a big difference in this equation of women at work. We discussed it very much in the IMPA meeting in July. We also discussed a bit about gender-related harassment at IMPA, but it played a huge role in Women in Logic, at Oxford last year. Actually every time I talk to other women about work, this subject raises its head. It's a difficult one. Every woman I know has a story to tell, some stories much worse than others. There are many issues that we need to discuss; the difficulty is not to lose one's temper with some of the reactions we get.
